AI helps you read and write. You decide. The real letter is what counts.
Which AI app do I need?
- Any chat AI works. ChatGPT and Gemini are two common ones.
- Use the one you already have.
Is it free?
- Yes. Both have a free plan.
- You don't need to pay to use our guides.
- Asked for a card to start? You can skip paid plans.
Is it safe to paste my letter?
- Cover your SSN, Medicare or member ID, and account numbers first.
- Cover your name, birth date and address.
- Pasting? Delete the numbers first. Photo? Cover them with paper.
- Never share a password or PIN.
- People at the AI company may read chats. Paste only what you'd show a stranger.
- ChatGPT: to stop chats training its AI, go to Settings, then Data controls. Turn off "Improve the model for everyone."
What if the AI is wrong?
- It can be. It can even make things up.
- Check each date and amount against the letter.
- The letter wins. Call a number you look up yourself.
How do I copy a prompt on a phone?
- Tap the blue Copy button.
- Open the AI app. Press and hold in the message box.
- Tap Paste to add the prompt. Add your letter after it. Then send.
What if the button doesn't work?
- Press and hold on the prompt text.
- Drag to select all of it. Tap Copy.
What if the answer is too long?
- Type: "Shorter, please. 5 lines or fewer."
- Or: "Explain that like I'm new to this."
Can I send a photo of my letter?
- Yes. Add a photo with + or Add files (free in ChatGPT and Gemini once signed in; daily limits).
- Cover private details first. Pasting? Delete the numbers first. Photo? Cover them with paper.
- Check the AI read every line, even the small print.
What if I think it's a scam?
- Asked for gift cards, a PIN or a password? Stop.
- Don't call numbers in texts or emails.
- Call a number you look up yourself.
